Middle of The Map Fest
We were very lucky and excited to play at Ink’s Middle of the Map Festival this year! It was curated by The Record Machine and couldn’t have turned out better for a first year festival. We had the Saturday night slot at the Beaumont Club at 8pm. We got to share the stage with State Bird, Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s, and the infamous Daniel Johnston! It was sure a night to remember. Here is what Elke Mermis from the Pitch had to say about it all:
“I then trekked back to the Beaumont to watch Cowboy Indian Bear take over the venue’s stage. All of the things that I love about the band was even bigger in the Beaumont’s long ballroom. Stark contrasts in the band’s songs were given the full spotlight that they deserved: high points were louder, and the tenderness in Hillard, Calhoun and Conroy’s voices was even softer. Two ladies in cropped sweaters and capris next to me asked the name of the band onstage, and swayed their hips back and forth to CIB’s melodies. (Local music: one, universe: zero.)”
“I thought about hoofing it over to the Riot Room to catch Capybara’s set before the band joined Daniel Johnston on stage later; but CIB roped me in again with a version of “Santiago” that was positively rapturous.”
“When CIB toted its instruments off stage, I surveyed the crowd, which filled the Beaumont’s floor back to the sound booth. It was a long time since I’d seen beads of sweat on fellow concert-goers’ foreheads. Dudes with sleeves and Tutankhamun beards stood next to ladies in flip-flops with bobs. In front of me, there was a guy in a Cramps shirt that proclaimed that the band was “more powerful than a vat of boiling acid” — fuck yes — and lots of young local rock fans crowded next to each other, eagerly.”

Hey guys, just wanted to give you all a heads up on our plans for the next few months.
We’ve set ourselves some pretty exciting, but lofty goals to try and work towards this year. Hopefully ending in us making some good music, meeting new friends, and seeing some new parts of the country we haven’t had a chance to see yet. We’re planning on taking some time away from playing shows, and spending the good part of the next 3 months writing and recording our next couple releases. We’ve already started working on a number of new songs and are VERY excited to finish them and see what comes next, BUT there are a few show’s that we have left before the end of the year so look for those if you want to come out.
November 12 @ 8th Street Taproom-Lawrence, KS w/Hidden Pictures
November 19 @ The Record Bar-Kansas City, MO w/ Making Movies, and Poison Control Center
December 11 @ The Bottleneck-Lawrence, KS w/ The Noise FM, Hawley Schoffner, Quiet Corral, and The Acb’s
December 18 @ Blue Planet Cafe-Topeka, KS w/ Sam Billen
This REALLY has been a SPECIAL year for all of us, and we can not thank you enough for the support you guys have continued to give us. We’re going to be working very hard to get some new music out next year, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it!

Cowboy Indian Bear was the lucky one TRM bands to take home a PMA last night. It is always great to see a ton of hard working bands get recognized. Most of us drank entirely way too much so thank you for that Pitch.
